US wireless infrastructure company Mobilitie is installing a 5G wireless network inside Chicago’s iconic Daley Center, the city’s premier civic center.
The project provides the Daley Center with a neutral-host network for reliable voice, data and streaming connectivity throughout the building, Mobilitie said.
“Our collaborative partnership with Mobilitie will help to dramatically improve wireless connectivity for staff and visitors to Chicago’s iconic Richard J. Daley Center,” said executive director of the Public Building Commission of Chicago, Carina Sánchez. “We are thrilled to begin commercial operation and we are looking forward to continuing to innovate with strategic partners like Mobilitie to augment wireless coverage and capacity and promote digital equity across our city.”
Regional vice president of wireless solutions at Mobilitie, Melissa Mullarkey told In-Building Tech that the in-building network is designed with high-capacity fiber to accommodate growing mobile data traffic demand and facilitate the use of IoT and proptech. “The network delivers superior coverage, high speeds and low latency so all employees and visitors will experience fast and reliable service,” the executive said.
Mullarkey also said that in-building network deployments typically take a few months from the start of construction to commissioning the system.
She highlighted that Mobilitie is seeing an increasing interest from the government segment in in-building projects.
“In-building wireless demand is growing exponentially. We are seeing accelerated interest from government buildings and across all segments of the real estate sector. All industries are going through a digital transformation and massive investment in wireless infrastructure is needed to keep pace with demand. The demand for in-building wireless systems is driven by the ongoing growth of mobile data traffic, increasing deployment of IoT devices and the expanding use of proptech.”
Mobilitie wireless infrastructure includes communication towers, indoor and outdoor neutral host DAS networks, small cells, IoT, and Wi-Fi networks.
