MasMovil Reopens Talks With Vodafone Over Spanish Sale

By Jonathan Easton

Spanish telco MasMovil has reopened talks with Vodafone over a merger of their local business units.

According to local paper Expansion, the operators would seek to tie up a deal before Spain’s upcoming 700 MHz spectrum sale, and comes after reports of initial talks surfaced in September 2020.

In the event of a merger, Xataka reports that MasMovil has valued Vodafone’s Spanish business at €7.5 billion.

A merger so close to the auction would raise eyebrows over the auction, with regulators potentially objecting to the new company having a better position.

MasMovil has been heavily expanding its business in recent years via acquisitions. It has bought smaller players including Lycamobile, Lebara, Llamaya.
