Office of The NBTC in cooperation with the International Institute of Communications hosted the International Symposium on 5G and Driving the Benefits of Big Data on June 24 2021 with an aim to push forward the benefits of 5G and Big Data Technologies in various industries and to promote digital transformation in Thai’s economy and society.
Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (Office of The NBTC) in cooperation with International Institute of Communications (IIC) on June 24 2021 hosted the International Symposium on 5G and Driving the Benefits of Big Data at Auditorium Hall 2 Office of the NBTC in hybrid meeting format to align with Thai government restriction during COVID-19 outbreak.
President of International Institute of Communications UK Chris Chapman delivered welcoming remarks and Acting Chairman of the NBTC Honourable Commissioner, General Sukit Khamasundara presided over the opening ceremony. Also present was Deputy Secretary-General, Trairat Viriyasirikul Acting Secretary General and representative from Japan and Russian Embassy in Thailand.
The objective of the International Symposium was to provide an opportunity for government and private sectors and embassy representatives in Thailand to acknowledge the benefits and critical role of 5G and Big Data Technologies in countries around the world in which it is a key mechanism for data connections through telecom infrastructure that drives advancement of business activities and creates value-added in various industries.
The symposium addressed four topics, namely: 1) Strategies for driving 5G;
2) Creating and seizing opportunities offered for digital transformation case studies;
3) Infrastructure and policy requirements to support big data, and;
4) The need for regulatory change and regulators’ roles.
The International Symposium featured at least 25 speakers, including: Chairman, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, Chairperson, Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communication (BEREC) 2021 Michel Van Bellinghen; Vice President, Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) Germany Dr. Wilhelm Eschweiler; Chief of Digital Technology for Development, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Thomas E Abel, Cluster Director (Networks, Technology & Resource), Infocomm Media Development Authority Harin Grewal; Executive Director, Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC). Plus top executives from Nokia, AT&T, iQIYI, Google, Cisco, NTT Docomo, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asia Cloud Computing Association, Oracle ASEAN, Commissioner of Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Thailand.
High-level Thai and international management experts performed as moderators, including: Andrea Millwood International Institute of Communications; Associate Professor Sudharma Yoonaidharma, Commissioner at Energy Regulatory Commission Thailand, and; Notachard Chintakanond Executive Director, International Affairs Bureau Office of the NBTC. Moreover, more than 300 participants from both Thai and international entities attended the International Symposium online.
Office of the NBTC aims to escalate Thai industry development in preparation for digital transformation in the Thai economy and society for the utmost benefit of all Thai Citizens.
