Remon Zakaria has been appointed Head of Montenegro for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Mr. Zakaria, who will be based in Podgorica, said: “I am really looking forward to taking on this new role and working with the EBRD’s great team on the ground. We will focus on strengthening the competitiveness of the country’s private sector, enhancing its integration with regional markets and accelerating Montenegro’s green economy transition. The country has a fantastic potential for renewables and we will work very hard to unlock these opportunities.”
A dual Italian and Egyptian national, Zakaria joined the EBRD’s Energy Efficiency and Climate Change team in April 2012. He was initially based in Istanbul from where he supported the delivery of green investments, policy dialogue assignments and technical assistance. In 2016, he moved to London to cover the southern and eastern Mediterranean region. Subsequently he became responsible for a unit of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change specialists focused on green buildings.
In Montenegro, Zakaria will succeed Jaap Sprey, who will be joining the European Commission in Brussels. To date, the EBRD has invested €700 million(US$810.8million) in 74 projects.
