Sony Group Corporation has announced details for the “Sony Open in Hawaii” golf tournament to be held from Monday, January 10th to Sunday, January 16th, 2022 in Oahu, Hawaii (US).
As announced on November 8, it was decided to provide the title sponsor’s exemption spots to the Japan Golf Association and the Japan Golf Tour Organization through the “Sony Open Challenge”, and Keita Nakajima and Takumi Kanaya have been chosen to participate.
Sony has sponsored the Sony Open in Hawaii continuously since 1999, and has extended its sponsorship contract for another four years until 2026. Each year, all proceeds from this event are channeled back into the Hawaiian community through partner Friends of Hawaii Charities to support children, women, the elderly, and the economically disadvantaged. With a total of approximately US$22 million donated*3 to over 350 charities to date, the tournament is the largest charity sports event in Hawaii.
Since 2000, proceeds from the tournament have been matched by The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. a charity partner that assists economically disadvantaged and other vulnerable individuals and families.
