By Manny Pham

MTN Ghana CEO Selorm Adadevoh said in a virtual meeting the 5G pilot would not be possible as the country’s regulator has yet to release licenses.

The chief executive did not give a time frame of when the pilot will eventually begin but warned the government, that to fulfil its connectivity targets by 2025, 5G deployments must start soon.

News Ghana reported that the country has a 90 per cent 4G coverage rate. Initially, the operator predicted a March launch this year but discussions are still ongoing with regulators. MTN has upgraded 1,322 sites in preparation for the launch of commercial 5G services.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Communications Commission and MTN have reportedly set August 24 as the date when the operator will roll out its commercial 5G service, reported Nairametrics.
