Global Marine Group’s OceanIQ has launched a pair of subscription services for access to its submarine cable database. GeoCableLight and GeoCablePro offer different levels of access to the database, which stretches back more than 170 years. OceanIQ says the database is reflective of the company’s knowledge of 97 per cent of all the fiber-optic cables laid worldwide, alongside an extensive understanding of power cables.

GeoCableLight is a secure, web-based platform that enables groups to have view-access to the database, including data sets beyond its traditional GIS and route engineering users. GeoCableLight is also available on mobile devices and tablets. GeoCablePro is designed for what OceanIQ termed “professional users who need access to OceanIQ’s full data set” and represents a rebranding of the company’s previous professional service option.

Meanwhile, OceanIQ also now makes available a free insight map of the world’s submarine cable networks. The map covers more than 1.5 million km of in-service fiber-optic cables. OceanIQ asserts the map is the most accurate available for free and offers generalized data beyond other more illustrative alternatives.
