 Owalo, World Bank In Talks To Finance The Kenya Digital Superhighway Project

Information, Communication and Digital Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo Monday held consultations with World Bank’s Isabel Neto, Eastern Africa’s Digital Development Sector Director and Dr Tim Kelly, Lead ICT Policy Expert for Digital Development.

The meeting was in relation to the funding of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Programme (KDEAP).

KDEAP is a component of Africa’s programme with the WBG’s Moonshot agenda for the continent’s digital economy by 2030.

Kenya is looking at a facility of US Dollars 600 Million towards the Kenya Digital Superhighway project.

The funds will go towards building infrastructure, developing digital skills, and providing digital services, in line with the recent resolution of the Cabinet.

Last week, the Owalo also met with the World Bank Vice President responsible for Infrastructure, Guangzhe Chem, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

The meeting was also in relation to the funding of the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Programme (KDEAP).

World Bank Director for Digital Development Christine Zhenwei, Global Manager for Digital Management, Casey Torgusson, Kenya’s Ambassador to Spain, Michael Oyugi, Chair of Communication Authority Mary Wambui, Communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba and CEO of the National Communications Secretariat Daniel Obam were also present during the meeting.
