Dominica Revels In Recent Success At CTO Sustainable Awards

Investments in boosting Dominica’s tourism product are being recognised as the island won several accolades at the recent 2022 Caribbean Sustainable Awards Competition.

WildDominique won the ‘Tourism Education and Training’ category while three other Dominican tourism businesses received runners-up awards from CTO in ‘Excellence in Sustainable Tourism,’ ‘Community-Based Tourism’, ‘Tourism Health and Safety’ and ‘Destination Stewardship and Resilience Award.’

WildDominique, an NGO created to support and promote sound conservation practices in Dominica, was awarded the best ‘Tourism Education and Training’ prize for their ‘Friend of Conservation’ initiative.

Launched in 2022, the joint venture between WildDominique, the Forestry, Wildlife & Parks Division, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and the Dominica State College was designed to establish biodiversity friendly livelihoods in the Nature Island.

The programme allows tour guides to be updated on information about Dominica’s natural resources and they learn how to translate that information effectively and seamlessly for the public’s understanding.

“We are elated to have won the award for tourism education as our chief objective is to educate the public on the importance of sustainability in Dominica. We are touted as the ‘Nature Island’ of the Caribbean so it is imperative that we combine our efforts to keep the island clean and green so that visitors and residents will enjoy the benefits of our forests year after year, ” said Wildlife Ecologist & Founder of WildDominique, Jeanelle Brisbane,.
