Itasca, Illinois-based business intelligence software company Trionfo Solutions suffered a data breach that compromised the sensitive personal information of more than 80,000 individuals.

In a data security incident notice filed with the Office of the Maine Attorney General, Trionfo Solutions said that it learnt about an unauthorised third party gaining access to portions of its internal network between December 4, 2023 and December 6, 2023.

The company immediately launched an internal investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the nature and scope of the incident. Also, it took steps to secure the affected network and notified law enforcement about the same.

“Based on the results of the investigation, we believe the unauthorised party may have acquired certain files from our systems. Trionfo reviewed the contents of the files that may have been acquired and determined that they contained your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, phone number, and/or email address,” reads the notice.

While the company’s filing with the Maine state Attorney’s Office states that 65,787 individuals were impacted by the data security incident, a recent filing with the US Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights states that the company has identified 81,588 individuals who were affected by the same breach.

“We are taking steps to reduce the risk of this type of incident occurring in the future, including reviewing our technical and administrative safeguards,” Trionfo added.

While the company found no evidence of the compromised information being misused, it advised all affected individuals to regularly monitor their credit reports, account and benefit statements and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement authorities, including the police and state attorney general.

It has also offered one year of complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services through Experian IdentityWorks to all affected individuals.
