Vodacom Mozambique has launched commercial 5G services in the country’s capital city Maputo.
The company plans to extend its 5G service to other parts of the country in the coming years, connecting up to 75 per cent of the population by 2025.
“5G technology will significantly improve the quality of the telecommunications service provided in the country, particularly in the materialization of the Internet of things (IoT) and ‘smart everything’ (smart cities, smart agriculture, smart ports, etc.), as it is the technology that better supports these cases,” said Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala.
Vodacom first launched mobile services in the country back in December 2023.
As of last year, the operator has more than seven million mobile subscribers.
South-African-based Vodacom Group operates under the Vodacom name in several African markets, including Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Nigeria, and as Safaricom in Kenya and Ethiopia.
