Chief Technology Officer, LMI

By Staff Writer

Under Dr. Joe Norton’s leadership, LMI’s technology organization evolved into a technology and innovation ecosystem that engages with early-stage technology, academia and labs, as well as technology partners who prioritize government use cases.

To bolster this ecosystem, the Forge technology studio was built to explore and test new ideas and accelerate government organizations’ development time. The Forge constructs early-stage concepts on advanced technology by combining LMI’s federal market expertise with agile development and human-centered design, leveraging LMI’s proprietary agile framework, Ranger™.

The CTO operating model built by Norton and his team prioritizes upskilling LMI employees to diversify skillsets and learning opportunities. This allows LMI to attract top talent and strategically develop expertise in complex technological, data and process areas to position the company for the future. The model nurtures an internal engine of deep and intersectional innovation to develop ideas and deliver differentiating solutions.

“Dr. Norton is committed to challenging current timelines and processes by streamlining results and becoming a disrupter in the technology and innovation space,” said LMI President of Markets, Growth & Technology Josh Wilson. “His complex understating of innovation fosters an environment filled with change agents and SMEs who can anticipate the technological needs of our government partners.”

Why Watch

LMI is focused on solutions that lead to longstanding and durable results, leaning into partnerships with academia and other solution providers, and putting the customer at the center of the solutions. LMI’s model enables the company to remain vendor agnostic and focused on customers’ specific needs. LMI’s customer intimacy allows for transitioning solutions from innovation to execution and incorporating input to improve delivery. For example, in 2024, LMI is leveraging generative AI across functional applications and integrating with hardware at the edge of customer operations.

“We aim to anticipate new technology and trends that will disrupt and change the way our customers operate,” Norton said. “It is our priority to deploy technology into secure, government-accredited environments with a product-driven mindset.”
