Online wholesale marketplace Faire has named engineering executive Thuan Pham as its new chief technology officer (CTO).

Known for his leadership as CTO at both Uber and Coupang, Pham will lead the engineering, data and IT teams at Faire, and shape the company’s technical strategy. Prior to joining the wholesale marketplace, he spent 30 years building and directing teams at a number of companies in tech.

“We’re very excited to welcome Thuan to our team and look forward to the positive impact he will bring to our customers,” said co-founder and CEO of Faire Max Rhodes,. “His experience guiding companies through substantial growth and navigating complex challenges is unmatched. Getting to know Thuan’s leadership style, his focus on community, and meaningful work aligns with what we stand for at Faire. I’m confident he will help bring out the very best in our organization.”

As Faire CTO, Pham said in a release that he is “eager to build tools that empower business owners around the world to carve out their own paths and pursue their dreams.”

“Faire’s mission to empower small businesses and entrepreneurship deeply resonates with me,” continued Pham. “The positive impact of this platform on the livelihood of people around the world will be enormous. I was drawn to this team by the kindness, thoughtfulness, passion, and energy of everyone I met here. There is nothing in the world more professionally fulfilling than getting to do the impactful work you love, with brilliant friends and colleagues who also share your values.”

Faire’s co-founder and former CTO Marcelo Cortes will move into a new role with Pham’s hiring, transitioning into the company’s chief architect position. Cortes will continue to serve on Faire’s executive team and work closely with Pham in his new role.

Cortes joined Rhodes and other co-founders Jeff Kolovson and Daniele Perito to launch Faire during YCombinator’s Winter 2017 cohort. He established Faire’s Canadian headquarters in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, and expanded Faire’s technical teams to more than 300 people across offices in Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, London and Sao Paulo.

“It has been incredibly fulfilling to establish and lead the technical teams here at Faire,” said Cortes. “I’m happy to be bringing on one of the tech industry’s most iconic leaders to guide our talented team to the next stage of innovation. In my new role, I’m eager to begin working directly on innovative tech to unlock new possibilities for our customers.”

Faire’s executive team has expanded several times over the last few years. Neervi Patel became the company’s chief people officer and Ami Vora was named chief product officer in 2023. Dan Hockenmaier joined the executive team as chief strategy officer in 2024, and Lauren Cooks Levitan has served as chief financial officer since 2019.
