Times Journalism Alumni Association Celebrates Former Director, Mr. Ndubuisi Ugbede At 70

The Times Journalism Alumni Association (TJAA)  has announced it is putting up a special celebration in honour of its  immediate past Director, Mr. Ndubuisi Ugbede, as he marks his 70th birthday.

The event, scheduled to take place on April 5, 2025, in Lagos, south west, Nigeria, will bring together journalism professionals, alumni, and friends to pay tribute to Mr. Ugbede’s remarkable contributions to the field of journalism.  In addition to contributing in training many local and international journalists, Mr. Ugbede currently sits on the board of Faculty of Judges for the prestigious Nigerian Media Merit Awards(NMMA) .

The celebration will feature keynote speeches by distinguished guests, as well as a presentation of a special award to Mr. Ugbede in recognition of his dedication and service to journalism  in particular and the media industry in general as well as afford the organisers the opportunity of kickstarting the process of reviving  the now moribund Times Journalism Institute(TJI)Surulere, Lagos, the foremost journalism training school in the country.

The focus of the keynote addresses would be: Bridging the Gap in Journalism Education in Nigeria and Beyond, and Ethical Journalism in the 21st century and the missing links.

“Mr. Ugbede’s legacy is a testament to his commitment to excellence in journalism,” said President of TJAA Clifford Agugoesi. “We are honoured to celebrate this milestone birthday and recognize his enduring impact on our profession.”

The event is open to all members of the journalism community, governments, bilateral and multilateral institutions, captains of industry and all employers of journalists and other mass communication professionals.

“Celebrating icons such as Mr. Ugbede will serve to firing their spirits the more as they seek individually and collectively to eternally encourage ethical journalism practices,” added  Mr. Agugoesi.

The Times Journalism Alumni Association (TJAA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in journalism and supporting the professional development of its members.
