The National Coordinator of Service Compact With All Nigerians(SERVICOM), Mrs. Nnenna Akajimeli during a courtesy visit to the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) recently said creation of awareness on the important roles IPR plays on National development and the establishment of Intellectual Property and technology transfer Offices by NOTAP were capable of leapfrogging the socio-economic development of the country and should be commended.
A statement sighted by Cyber Era NG and authored by Raymond Onyenezi Ogbu, on behalf of the Head Public Relations and Protocol Unit of NOTAP, says Mrs. Akajimeli said NOTAP was a very strategic government agency that has shown commitment in ensuring rapid development of indigenous technology for effective service delivery to all Nigeria. She added that SERVICOM being an establishment that ensures quality service delivery in the country, her Office must work closely with NOTAP.
Globally, technology advancement is what makes a difference between developed and developing countries. While developed countries engage in demand-driven researches that metamorphous into goods and service to solve daily human existential challenges, developing countries engage in researches that end-up in the shelves with little or no impact on human life.
Nigeria as a developing country has suffered decades of technology lack and as a result, depends heavy on technologies emanating from other countries to power her economy. Arising from the need to change this trend and launch Nigeria into a global technology superpower, the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has pioneered creation of Intellectual Property Right awareness in the knowledge Institutions across the country. This awareness on IPR in the Nigerian knowledge institutions has no doubt attracted encomiums from both government and private establishments. Stated Mrs. Akajimeli: “Our visit to NOTAP today is to explore areas of collaboration to ensure a rapid technological development of the country, knowing that without technology, no country shall fully attain its potentials
