SVOD platform Amazon Prime is ramping up its presence in the true crime market, with the acquisition of The Murder Of Meredith, a feature length documentary (1 x 90 mins) about the brutal 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy.
Produced by Woodcut Media, the film reframes the narrative of the events, so that the focus of this crime is on the victim. Told by those involved in the case, it examines the evidence, egos, and errors that left more questions than answers. Angie Cox, producer/director at Woodcut Media said: “15 years on from one of the most talked about murders in modern history, we bring together the key people involved in the original investigation. At the heart of this are Meredith and her family.”
The deal, which is with Amazon Prime UK & Ireland, was brokered distributor Abacus Media Rights, which will also handle global sales. AMR managing director Jonathan Ford said: “We are pleased to have secured this deal with Prime Video (UK & Ireland) for this Amazon Exclusive. It’s a true crime story that shocked the world and digs deep into the mysterious murder of this young student may years ago.”
