BK Technologies this week announced the company has created a Solutions business unit, which will include its software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings, as well as software applications and some hardware that will be made available to the market under the BK ONE brand name.

James Teel, who will lead the new solutions business unit, said the BK Technologies SaaS business unit that he led provided “too narrow a view” of the type of offerings wanted to bring to the marketplace, so company officials decided to create a solutions unit that could include the SaaS products.

“We see the value of broadening our portfolio to include solutions,” Teel said during an interview with Urgent Communications. “SaaS is one arrow in that quiver, but there are other solutions that may not be SaaS. We decided that the business unit is probably better positioned as a solutions business unit that includes a number of things.”

As described in a BK Technologies press release about the new solutions unit, the BK ONE portfolio—rebranded from BKRplay—consists of three existing offerings:

“InteropONE, BK’s push-to-talk-over-broadband (PTToB) service that enables the on-demand creation of user groups that can include anyone with an active smartphone;

“LocateONE, an on-premise solution that provides real-time tracking of personnel and assets in the field using GPS functionality; and

“RelayONE, a rapidly deployed portable repeater [RDPR] kit designed to extend range and facilitate interoperability among different types of public safety and military radios.”

BK Technologies CEO John Suzuki outlined the importance of the link between these components of the BK ONE portfolio and the company’s BKR portable radios

“Interoperability between communication devices and platforms has long been a challenge for the public-safety market,” Suzuki said in a prepared statement. “In the field, first responders are increasingly using public-safety smartphone applications, often through a variety of smartphone providers and platforms.

“When a crisis hits, BK ONE offers rapidly deployable interoperability solutions, which significantly increase the effectiveness of the public safety response while keeping the first responders safe. When a BK ONE solution is teamed with a BKR Series radio, the first responder receives an enhanced user experience—a benefit that we believe will drive sales of both our BK ONE solutions and our BKR series radios.”

While the BK ONE umbrella currently features InteropONE, LocateONE and RelayONE, BK Technologies personnel are busy developing other offerings that will be added to the portfolio in the future, Teel said.

“There’s more coming,” Teel said.

Attendees of the IWCE 2025 event in Las Vegas can learn more about the BK ONE portfolio and other BK Technologies offerings by visiting company representatives in Booth #1029 during exhibit-hall hours on March 19-20.
