By Clifford Agugoesi, Editor-in-Chief
Globally, it is the joy of parents to be alive and to witness their sons and daughters get hooked to their heartthrobs, wherein they bless their children and hope and pray they would succeed in life. Other parents are not as lucky and so are not alive to savour this usually memorable event. The Gwandus and Alieros are on the lucky side of things!
This month end, Gwandu Town, in Gwandu Emirate in Kebbi State, north west, Nigeria, will go agog as two prominent sons of the state, namely Dr. Bashir Gwandu and Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, (Garkuwan Gwandu) will host their numerous friends and associates as their daughter Fatima weds their son Abdulazeez, in what is potentially a high profile Wedding Fatiha.
Among Muslim Faithfuls, a Fatiha is a blessing for the new couple. This custom involves the reading of the first verse of the Quran in the presence of the new couple with their immediate family and sometimes extended relatives. The Fatiha is an intimate affair that lasts a few hours. However, for both Fatima and Abdulazeez, as for some couples that that threaded this path before them, the memory will last for a lifetime.
The bride’s father, Dr. Gwandu is a former Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer(EVC/CEO) of telecommunications sector regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC)in acting capacity and currently sits on the Advisory Board of White-Stone Communications, publisher of Cyber Era NG, while the groom’s father, Senator Aliero, is a former Governor of Kebbi State, and has been representing Kebbi Central in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly-The Senate since 2007.
