French luxury furniture brand Ligne Roset has introduced digital product passports (DPPs) that combine QR codes and blockchain technology to authenticate its products. Fashion brand Serendipity Clothing has chosen the same solution for its DPPs, but has picked NFC tags as its preferred DPP data carrier.

Ligne Roset’s DPP proves authenticity of the brand’s Togo Loveseat, as well as compliance with European Union traceability regulations and a way for the brand to engage with customers post-purchase.

The DPP uses unique QR codes to identify individual sofas and a mobile app enabling customers to record ownership, authenticate their purchase, and engage with the brand through personalised experiences and events, reports CoinTrust.

The DPP solution was designed by Trust-Place, provider of a white label app that also supports NFC and includes the ability for brands to set up and manage both ‘care and repair’ and resale services.

The provider’s NFC functionality is being used by French streetwear brand Serendipity Clothing to add value to its digital product passports.

Select Serendipity garments have an NFC chip located on the product tag that customers can scan at the time of purchase to access an activation form. This provides them with an authenticity and proof of ownership certificate that can be transferred to a new owner if the item is resold.

Serendipity is also using the app to engage with buyers on an on-going basis. Customers can access limited editions, exclusive pre-orders and private events, provide feedback on colours, trends and models and input on future products, all via the app.

“At Serendipity, we believe in fashion that truly reflects our customers’ desires. Thanks to our partnership with Trust-Place, we are giving our community the power to shape the future of the brand. We are creating a space where our customers’ voices have a direct impact, while offering them the security of an authentic and ethical product,” says founder of Serendipity Charles Perrier.
