The popular public benefit company, Kickstarter, has recently announced its new AI policy, set to take effect on August 29th, 2023. The policy aims to address concerns surrounding the use of AI in projects funded on the platform.
Under the new policy, creators using AI tools for generating images, text, or any other output will be required to disclose relevant details on their project page. This includes information on how AI content will be utilized and which elements of the project will be original human-created work.
In addition, projects involved in the development of AI technology, tools, or software must disclose information about the databases and data they intend to use. The creators must also indicate how these sources handle consent and credit for the data. If the sources do not have proper processes in place to manage consent, Kickstarter may not approve the project.
It is important to note that Kickstarter is not completely banning the use of AI. Instead, the platform is focusing on ensuring transparency and accountability for projects utilizing AI. This new policy reflects the company’s commitment to addressing concerns and fostering a trustworthy environment for backers.
The company has also stated that the policy will be revisited as AI technology evolves and will be influenced by ongoing conversations with the Kickstarter community.
