Australia-based property portal operator REA Group has appointed Steve Maidment as CTO. He will take up the position in October.
Maidment will return to his native Australia from AutoTrader Canada, where he has held the role of senior VP and chief digital officer for the past five years.
REA Group CEO Owen Wilson said he looks forward to Maidment helping the company accelerate its technology capabilities.
“Steve’s experience implementing transformative technology strategies that deliver high performing digital products and platforms will undoubtedly result in significant business value for REA,” Wilson said in a statement.
Prior to AutoTrader, Maidment held numerous technology roles at Australian companies, including Australia Post, telecommunications giant Telstra, and Sensis, which operates the Yellow and White Pages in Australia.
“I am thrilled to join an exceptionally high-performing technology team within one of Australia’s foremost digital companies,” Maidment said. “I eagerly look forward to making my own mark on this dynamic environment and achieving remarkable milestones together.”
Maidment takes over from Chris Venter who went on medical leave in August 2022 following a serious accident. Craig Templeton, REA Group’s chief information and security officer, has been acting CTO in his absence.
“I would also like to thank Chris Venter and acknowledge his contribution to REA,” Wilson said. “He will be missed by all of us. It has been an extremely difficult time for Chris and his family, and our thoughts and best wishes remain with him during his recovery.”
