Samsung Germany Customer Data Exposed In Credential Breach Linked To Third-party Vendor

A security lapse involving a third-party IT service provider has led to the exposure of 270,000 customer service tickets from Samsung Germany, underscoring the persistent risks associated with stolen credentials. The breach, traced back to Spectos GmbH, was enabled by login credentials that had been compromised as far back as 2021 but remained unnoticed until a cybercriminal known as “GHNA” exploited them in 2025.
According to cybersecurity researchers at HudsonRock, the credentials were initially harvested by the Racccoon infostealer in 2021 from an employee of Spectos GmbH, a company responsible for managing Samsung Germany’s ticketing system at samsung-shop.spectos.com. The stolen login information remained inactive for four years until it surfaced again, enabling unauthorized access and the subsequent leak of sensitive customer interactions.
“At Hudson Rock, we flagged these compromised credentials years ago in our Cavalier database, which tracks more than 30 million infected machines,” the researchers stated in a March 30 blog post. “These credentials sat dormant until ‘GHNA’ got their hands on them. Fast forward to 2025, and boom: 270,000 customer tickets hit the open internet, most of them from 2025, courtesy of a simple login that never got rotated.”
This marks the second major cybersecurity incident for Samsung in recent years. In 2023, employees of the company inadvertently leaked sensitive internal code while using ChatGPT, prompting Samsung to prohibit the use of generative AI tools within the organization. The latest breach highlights yet another cybersecurity vulnerability—poor credential management—serving as a cautionary tale for both corporations and their third-party service providers.
Cybersecurity experts emphasize that stolen credentials often remain exploitable long after the initial compromise. Chief Information Security Officer at Deepwatch, Chad Cragle called the Samsung Germany breach a prime example of the lingering threat posed by stolen login information.
“This is proof that old compromises don’t just disappear; they wait,” said Cragle. “Attackers continuously scan for forgotten or unmonitored access points. Without strong credential hygiene and real-time visibility, organizations—and their vendors—remain vulnerable.”
Cragle further stressed the need for continuous monitoring and proactive security measures, warning that neglected credentials can function as a “time bomb” for companies. He advised organizations to prioritize identity threat detection and tighten their oversight of third-party access to minimize exposure.
Co-founder and Chief Information Security Officer at Fenix24, Heath Renfrow suggested that Spectos GmbH may have lacked sufficient monitoring mechanisms to detect the misuse of the stolen credentials. He noted that organizations often focus on external threats while overlooking risks associated with compromised but seemingly legitimate user accounts.
“If the compromised account was linked to an administrative task, such as monitoring or service quality improvements, it may not have triggered security alerts,” Renfrow explained. “Attackers are often patient, waiting for the right moment to strike or for a larger breach to occur so they can extract more value from stolen data.”
